Mount Zion’s Worship Experience

This page explains the Bible patterns for spiritual experiences and worshiping God. For each topic, we give a small selection of Bible references. These are definitions of terminology and the guidelines we follow in our services.

Mount Zion
Mount Zion is the hill in Jerusalem where the Temple was located, and God’s presence dwelt in the Old Testament.
God’s presence is now in His church. (Hebrews 12:22-23)

Why do we worship God?
Worship expresses our love for God. (Matthew 4:10, John 4:23)

How should we worship God?
We should worship God from our hearts. (John 4:23-24, Philippians 3:3)

To Minister
To minister is to serve, help, or bless another by the Spirit of Christ working in us. (2 Corinthians 3:5-6)

To be Born Again
Born-again believers are people who have put their trust in Jesus’ death on the cross for their sins. A remarkable transformation occurs when we acknowledge our sinfulness, turn away from our sins, and give our lives to Jesus. (John 3:3, 3:6, 1:12, 1 Peter 1:23, John 3:16, 2 Corinthians 5:17)

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit
This is the empowering experience of believers as the anointing of the Holy Spirit falls on them. (Acts 2:1-4, 10:44-46)

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit gives some spiritual abilities to people when they are born again. These gifts become more manifested after the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. (1 Corinthians 12:8-10, Romans 12:6-8, 1 Corinthians 12:28)

The Anointing
The anointing is the presence and work of the Holy Spirit in a person’s life. (1 John 2:27)

The Glory
The glory is the manifestation of the presence of God that our spiritual and physical faculties can perceive. (1 Kings 8:10)

Revelation
Revelation is to receive an understanding of the Scriptures, God’s Will, and truth by the Holy Spirit. (Ephesians 1:15-17)

To Fall Under the Anointing
We may fall to the ground as the Holy Spirit ministers to us by filling and surrounding us with power. (Acts 9:4, 1 Kings 8:11, John 18:5-6)

Why do we receive tithes and offerings?
Deuteronomy 16:17, Malachi 3:10, Luke 6:38

Why do we play music and sing in our worship service?
Music and singing help us worship God from our hearts. (Psalms 150:3-5, Revelation 14:2, Ephesians 5:18-19)

Why do we clap and lift our hands to worship?
Psalms 47:1, Psalms 63:4, Psalms 134:2, 1 Timothy 2:8

Why do we stand to sing?
Standing is a sign of respect as we acknowledge God’s presence. (2 Chronicles 20:19, Revelation 7:9-10)

Why do we make audible praise to God?
Psalms 103:1, Hebrews 13:15, Revelation 19:1, 1:6

Why do we sing in tongues and English?
Singing in tongues helps us to worship in the spirit. (1 Corinthians 14:14-15)

Why do we have to speak in unknown tongues and interpretation?
The interpretation benefits the church. (1 Corinthians 14:39, 12:7, 12:10, 14:5, 14:27)

What is prophecy, and why do we prophesy?
1 Corinthians 14:3, 12:7-10

Why does the whole church pray at once for specific needs?
There is a special anointing when the church prays together in unity. (Acts 4:24)
